Sedan 2019 driver Lighthouse Trafikverkets branschprogram Hållbar sjöfart. Programmet som löper över tio år, fram till 2028, har som målsättning att skapa en internationellt konkurrenskraftig, hållbar och säker sjöfartssektor med god arbetsmiljö. Hittills har programmet genererat ett 50-tal projekt där runt 140 aktörer från näring, akademi och institut samverkat kring frågeställningar som rör allt från alternativa bränslen och grön omställning till smarta fartyg, digitalisering, säkerhet och både ekonomisk och social hållbarhet. Under hösten 2023 utvärderats branschprogrammet med mycket gott resultat. Därför bestämde sig Trafikverket under våren 2024 för att utlösa den option som låter Lighthouse driva branschprogrammet ytterligare fem år. Samtidigt fördubblades nästan forskningsmedlen. Mycket har hänt i både världen och sjöfartsforskningen under de fem år branschprogrammet drivits. Lighthouse har exempelvis varit med och lyft fram forskning om undervattensbuller, haft fingrarna med i forskningsprojektet Oceanbird (vilket ska mynna ut i en oceangående seglande bilfraktare) och genomfört flera studier i projektet som utvecklar en vätgasdriven Gotlandsfärja. Bland programmets deltagare finns branschorganisationer som Svensk Sjöfart och Transportföretagen, rederier, hamnar och marintekniska företag samt Stiftelsen Sveriges Sjömanshus. Från akademin deltar bland andra Chalmers, KTH, Göteborgs universitet, Uppsala universitet och Linnéuniversitet. Dessutom deltar forskningsinstitut som RISE, IVL Svenska miljöinstitutet och Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut, VTI och offentliga aktörer som Sjöfartsverket och Västra Götalandsregionen. Since 2019, Lighthouse has been running the Swedish Transport Administration's Sustainable Shipping industry program. The program, which runs over ten years, until 2028, aims to create an internationally competitive, sustainable and safe shipping sector with a good working environment. For example, Lighthouse has been involved in highlighting research on underwater noise, had a hand in the research project Oceanbird (which will result in an ocean-going sailing car carrier) and carried out several studies in the project that develops a hydrogen-powered Gotland ferry. Among the program's participants are industry organizations such as the Swedish Maritime and Transport Association, shipping companies, ports and marine technology companies and the Swedish Seamen's House Foundation. From academia, Chalmers, KTH, Gothenburg University, Uppsala University and Linnaeus University are participating.
