Development of injury risk curves (IRC) as the Basis for Safe System Speed Limit
Responsible organisation
2021 (English)Report (Other academic)
Abstract [en]

The study aims to build the relationship between persons’ injury severity and various variables using the logistic regression. By doing so, it may support Swedish Transport Administration (STA) with updates of old speed limits for frontal head-on crashes and side crashes. The study used the German In-depth Accident Study (GIDAS) database from the years 1999-2019. Frontal and side crash risk curves using delta-V and impact speed were developed and presented. The distribution of mass ratios of collision partners was determined. For the sake of generalization to Swedish conditions, GIDAS and STRADA crash distributions were compared regarding age, MAIS, curb weight and vehicle year.
